It was “once upon a time,” or rather just earlier this year, when our best and brightest here at SDE Weddings, Toronto’s premier wedding videography, cinematography and photo-booth group, took part in an unforgettable and truly unique photo-shoot event. Creating a special little style-piece for the esteemed online wedding magazine WedLuxe, our most talented videographers were overjoyed to work alongside wedding photographer Samantha Ong and wedding planner Rainbow Chan to bring together a fairytale-themed style shoot titled “Once upon a time.” As tales as old as time, and songs as old as rhyme would have you know, fairytales fondly found from our childhood have left an unbreakable and unshakeable impression on our collective mind. That’s why it was an absolute ‘fairytale’ in itself for our videographers to play a part in the production of such a fantastical and magical piece of art, an homage to the many brilliant works of fiction which made our childhoods all the more brighter.
Drawing stylistic inspiration primarily from three iconic Disney princesses; Snow White, Cinderella and Rapunzel, Toronto-based veteran wedding planner and co-ordinator Rainbow Chan had the monumental creative task in synthesizing these three magical tales of feminine heroism into one overarching style – one which encapsulated and truly summed up what made these delicate stories so appealing to fans of fantasy, young and old alike. With that broad goal in mind, Rainbow – true to her name – employed a venerable ‘rainbow’ of soft colours and palettes coupled with a shimmering gold aesthetic that made the style-shoot look both fantastical and unmistakably regal in its presentation.
The goal of the style-shoot from an artistic lens was to capture a style which accentuated and amplified the essential elements of elegance, beauty and sophistication – such styles which unified the quintessential “princess” fairytale, what dutifully made such centrepieces of childhood inspiration the magical works of art they were. And from the lens of our videographers and cinematographers, incorporating many subtle design decisions and style choices made the overall work a fully-featured fantasy in itself! The choice of room for the shoot, incorporating a royal ambiance that betrays not the main theme of the piece, the use of wedgewood blue backdrops to create a dreamlike aura, and the little knick-nacks scattered about that served as odes to the style shoot’s ultimate influence. A stack of old books as a nod to the Brothers’ Grimm, whose original work inspired their Disney incarnations, juxtaposed with the environment creates a feeling of art animating itself in real life. From a single flower enclosed in glass reminiscent of “Beauty & The Beast” and the use of mirrors throughout the style-shoot as an allusion to “Snow White,” these are just some of the many small pieces that would sum up to truly make fantasy into reality.
So with all that being said, it’s no wonder that our videographers here at SDE Weddings, Toronto’s premier videography, cinematography and photo-booth group, couldn’t help but be a part of the magic in making the WedLuxe featured style-shoot, “Once Upon A Time.” Have a look through the sample photographs from the shoot and our very own highlight reel and come experience the fairytale yourself!
