Sometimes life is simply better when you’re well connected, and with a wedding of over thirteen hundred celebrants, Vipushitha and Anchyan certainly know the benefits of a bit of fame. With a two-day wedding event, a ceremony set in the luxurious Le Parc banquet hall and the day-after reception in the massive Toscana banquet hall set in Thornhill, just outside of Toronto, the beloved couple surely knew how to set themselves apart with their celebration. Vipushitha and Anchyan, a Sri Lankan couple from Toronto who’ve only known each other for two years, did not let such a short period of time hinder them from finding the best out of one another, learning the ins and outs of their partner and discovering a true love that would lead to a lifelong commitment. We at SDE Weddings, Toronto’s premier wedding videography and cinematography group, are ever receptive to the cornucopia of cultural traditions that Toronto’s diversity brings us, and are no doubt especially receptive to the plenty colorful and extravagant ceremonies of South Asian weddings. Vipushitha and Anchyan’s wedding was indeed a sight to behold, and from our diligent work in both capturing and editing the plentiful wedding video footage of the two-day long festivities, we are quite delighted in bringing such sights, sounds and storytelling to fruition.
Culture and tradition are paramount things to the Sri Lankan community here in Toronto, and the coming of a new marriage brings forth not only happiness and prosperity, but growth to the community as a whole. Such a sentiment was made manifest in the extravagant ceremony that presided over the first day of wedding celebrations. Vipushitha’s father, a prominent lawyer in Toronto’s Sri Lankan community, had his reputation be a driving force for such a massive attendance of guests. Clearly, the couple had a lot on their shoulders as an entire enclave of Toronto’s multicultural patchwork had set their eyes on what would be among the most important events of their lives. Barring the intentions of the guests, numbering well over a thousand, what truly brought them there was the simple act of love between two people. In an exchange of wedding cards read before the ceremony, Anchyan applauds his bride for helping him discover the important things in life and teaching him how to become a better person, and likewise, Vipushitha expresses an eager expectation for her future life with her new husband. These simple messages of heartfelt feelings come in contrast to the complex rituals that involve a Tamil wedding ceremony. The couples’ determination for marriage proved enough for the rituals that were performed, and the two were happily wed to the cheers and smiles from the crowd. In a scene set in ostensibly royal surroundings, a shower of flower petals rained down on the newlyweds as Vipushitha and Anchyan made their promises to one another in the midst of family, friends, and our ever attentive wedding videographers & cinematographers.
In continuing a theme of contrasts, the day after would be seemingly set in a world a few steps away from the traditional atmosphere of the previous night. For the wedding reception, Anchyan replaced his robes and elaborately adorned turban with a more formal western suit and tie, while Vipushitha chose a gorgeous silken beige sari as a substitute to yesterday’s ceremonial red and gold cloth. In a brazen entrance to the Toscana banquet hall, the couple displayed a youthful vigor fit to match the lively ambiance of the packed ballroom. In a slew of speeches and slideshows, the beloved’s closest came to give their “going-off” greetings for the newlywed’s new life, and soon after, the dance floor opened as the couple hurried off to begin the ever-important first dance of the night. To close the evening, a long night of dancing was accompanied by an open bar with Canada’s trademark poutine making a guest appearance. All in all, Vipushita and Anchyan are a match made perfectly together, and in this regard, a perfect wedding celebration for them was no surprise. We at SDE Weddings, Toronto’s premier wedding videography and cinematography group, were truly enchanted by the eclectic South Asian motif of the two-day wedding event, and wish as well that our media work will likewise enchant Vipushita and Anchyan as a token of their truly magnificent wedding celebration.
